James in United agreement?

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to join Manchester United this summer.

According to Colombian radio station RCN, James – accompanied by his agent, Jorge Mendes – met with Florentino Perez a few days ago to express his unhappiness and present the offers he had on the table.

The broadcaster adds it was there that the 25-year-old revealed a deal with United was in the offing.

However, AS argues Jose Mourinho “isn’t convinced” by James’ arrival due to the involvement of Adidas.

RCN notes James’ sponsorship with the sportswear giant states that he must wear the No 10 jersey for all the teams he plays for.

The Red Devils’ 10 shirt is currently occupied by Wayne Rooney, considered “an institution” at the club, although he seems headed for the US or China.

Madrid paid €80m for James on the back of his performances for Colombia at the 2014 World Cup, but the former Porto and Monaco ace has appeared in just 19 games’ worth of minutes this season.

Nonetheless, he has managed 11 goals and 13 assists and the newspaper claims he is “plugged into” Los Blancos’ quest for a first La Liga and European Cup double since 1953.
