Betis ‘talking’ to Sergio Leon

Real Betis are planning ‘big changes’ this summer and are ‘talking to’ Osasuna striker Sergio Leon, according to president Angel Haro.

The club’s dismissal of Coach Victor Sanchez del Amo – after a run of three consecutive defeats and six losses in their last nine outings – is the latest low point in an underwhelming season for Los Verdiblancos, who sit 15th in the standings.

Leon has netted ten goals in 26 appearances for already-relegated Osasuna having hit 22 goals for Elche in the second tier the previous season, and is highly-coveted among top flight clubs.

“Sergio Leon is a player we like and who we are talking to,” admitted Haro on Canal Sur radio.

“The decision (to dismiss Sanchez) was a painful one but we felt we had little choice due to the results and performances of the team.

“It looks to us that the team is disconnected and many professionals believe the season has already ended, but for us this is not good enough and we will address this.

“There are going to be big changes this summer, there have been decisions made before the sacking but it is clear that this project has not met our ambitions.

“Our relationship and trust with (sporting director) Miguel Torrecilla is very good – it is clear that, like us, he has made mistakes but we are keen to continue working with him.

“I am a born fighter and will not resign, there aren’t many people who understand this club more and we will ensure we bring the success back.”
