Betis set to axe Victor Sanchez

Real Betis Coach Victor Sanchez del Amo could be dismissed before the end of the season following a poor run of results, say reports in Spain.

Monday’s 4-0 thumping at struggling Leganes could prove to be the tipping point for the manager, appointed only six months ago, according to Marca.

It was Los Verdiblancos third consecutive defeat and the second successive game in which they’ve shipped four goals – having previously capitulated 4-1 at home to a much-changed Alaves side at Estadio Benito Villmarin.

Marca say it will be ‘no surprise’ if the former Depor Coach is sacked before the end of the campaign, with coaches Marcos Alvarez and Alexis in line to take the first team duties in such a scenario.

Betis president Angel Haro said after Monday’s defeat: “This is a shameful result – we are going to make all the changes we have to make both inside and outside the dressing room.”

Sanchez has won only seven of his 25 matches in charge of Betis having replaced Gus Poyet in November, and has failed to lift them out of lower mid-table.
