Valencia open Marcelino talks?

Valencia have reportedly opened talks with Marcelino over the former Villarreal boss becoming their new Coach.

According to AS, general manager Mateu Alemany and sporting director Jose Ramon Alexanco are in agreement over Marcelino and have “initiated contact” with the Asturian.

The newspaper explains Los Che are hoping to appoint a new Coach by next week to give them plenty of time to prepare for next season.

Marcelino guided Villarreal to three top-six finishes in La Liga between 2013 and 2016, including fourth place and subsequent qualification for the Champions League last season.

However, differences with the board resulted in his dismissal just a week before the Yellow Submarine were due to face Monaco in their Champions League playoff last August.

Outgoing Las Palmas trainer Quique Setien and Celta’s Eduardo Berizzo are also under consideration.
