Sampaoli hurts ‘like a fan’

Sevilla Coach Jorge Sampaoli has ‘the same emotions as a fan’ whenever his side loses but believes this season has been a success for the club.

The former Chile manager has been linked with an end-of-season move to the Argentina national job – which he again refused to discuss – and admitted Monday’s loss at Malaga hurt but he took the positives from it.

“When I lose I have the same emotions as a fan,” Sampaoli told his pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s clash with Real Sociedad.

“The result against Malaga was not good but our performance level was fine, we lacked some control against a tough opponent but overall we had encouragement despite the disappointment.

“If we exceed 70 points this season it would be unfair to talk about any sort of failure, this has been a strong season where we have improved.

“Did I go to the Feria in Seville? No, I do not participate in these popular events, although of course it would have been nice to meet fans.”

A victory would, temporarily at least, take La Real from 7th to 5th, while Sevilla would go level with Atletico Madrid on points with a win.
