Mou: Celta deserve respect

Jose Mourinho insists Manchester United’s 1-0 advantage against Celta Vigo is “short” as the Galicians “deserve respect” in the return leg.

Marcus Rashford’s free kick proved the difference at Balaidos, but Mourinho was adamant United “deserved a better result”, although the Coach reminded his side not to underestimate the Galicians in the second part of their Europa League semi-final.

“The free kick is all about the work, he works every day, he loves to work sometimes when the training sessions have finished for the group he stays out and does individual work with my assistant,” the former Real Madrid boss said after the game, reports Manchester Evening News.

“He is training a lot, he trains, he practises, he enjoys the work, he enjoys the extra work.

“Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] is not here. The position of the free kick is not Paul Pogba's favourite position. So he took it.

“It was a great free kick because the ball was going really, really fast. The goalkeeper made a little movement and with the speed of the ball it was impossible to save. It was a well taken free kick. Their keeper has no chance.

“He worked really hard and caused them problems. he had a fantastic shot in the first half, and then that beautiful save.

“He's a 19-year-old kid but he's a 19-year-old kid in love with football. A kid that finished a training session and stays half an hour more every day to take free-kicks and to wait for the opportunity.

“His mentality. He works, he works, he works. He's very mature and let's forget the age because what matters is not age but the quality.

“The goalkeeper made a couple of important saves. But the way we started the game and the way we controlled the game in the first half I thought we deserved a better result.

“The opponent was difficult, the match was difficult, the stadium was difficult. So I couldn't be happier with the players.

“1-0 is really a short result. It could have been better, and seeing Celta's trajectory in the Europa League, they definitely deserve respect for the away match.”
