Preview: Eibar-Leganes

Sunday presents a must-win for both Eibar and Leganes, with Europe and survival in both sides’ respective sights at Ipurua.

With two defeats in their last three games, Eibar must avoid a third if they are to remain in the hunt for a top-six place in La Liga this season.

“We want to hold onto eighth place,” Coach Jose Luis Mendilibar said at a Press conference.

“We’re a point clear of Espanyol and have a better goal difference than them,” he said at a Press conference.

“We have to pick up enough points so that they don’t surpass us.

“If this leads us to reach any of the teams above us then that’d be even better, but right now I’m not thinking about that.

“I’m not worried because I have honest players in the squad and I know they’ll give everything they have on the pitch until the final whistle.”

Injuries to key pair Antonio Luna and Bebe and midfield destroyer Gonzalo Escalante’s suspension hinder Eibar’s chances against a Leganes side, whose only link to the bottom three will be their inferior head-to-head with Sporting Gijon if they pick up three points.

“The most important thing is to think only about your own game, nothing else,” noted boss Asier Garitano.

“We’re relying on ourselves and when we finish playing on Sunday, we’ll see what situation we’re in.”
