Zidane: I have best squad

Zinedine Zidane claims “I have the best players” but warns “we can still improve” after Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Valencia.

Marcelo fired an 86th-minute winner against Valencia to move Madrid three points clear atop La Liga with a game in hand on Barcelona, but while Zidane was delighted with the result, he stopped himself from getting too carried away.

“James? He did very well, he did his job like everyone else,” the Coach said after the game.

“I’m happy with how everyone played. When you don’t score a second goal, you have to suffer, but with the support of our fans, we found it at the end.

“When a team doesn’t attempt to play, it’s worse for you. If you don’t apply pressure, it’s better for your opponents and worse for us, but there are no excuses.

“We weren’t very clinical from the outset, we had a bit of anxiety, but then we let go and did good things. If you don’t play your game, you suffer.

“Today we had chances to kill the game off and we didn’t take them. This means that we can still improve.

“Late goals? I can’t explain goals at the death, I just know they’re exciting. They’re nice.

“Isco? You’ll see on Tuesday if he plays against Atletico. He’s in a phenomenal spate of form.

“When you’re 1-0 up, you think you’re in control and [complacency] can happen because you think you have another important game after it.

“The forwards? They had more prominence than usual. It’s a bonus for the team, but they’re like all the others because I have the best players.”
