Celta reach historic European semi

Pione Sisto’s goal in Belgium sealed Celta Vigo’s place in the Europa League semi-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win over Genk.

The Galicians held a 3-2 lead from last week’s first leg and following a goalless first half, the Danish attacker gave them the lead with a thunderous strike from the edge of the area just after the hour mark.

Leandro Trossard reduced the deficit four minutes later to make it a nervy finish, but Eduardo Berizzo’s held out to reach the last four of a European competition for the first time in their history.

Celta's away form in Europe this season has been impressive, with wins at Krasnodar, Shakhtar Donetsk and Panathinaikos in their last three away legs.

The Belgians had previously kept six clean sheets in eight European home games this term, but Sisto’s strike was just rewards for the Spaniards.

Celta will now face one of Ajax, Manchester United or Lyon in the competition’s last four.
