Casillas: Me and Mou were ‘a couple’

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas described his and Jose Mourinho’s relationship as ‘like a couple in love’ which then fell apart.

The pair were together at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, but despite initially getting along very well the legendary goalkeeper was dropped by the Portuguese Coach during the final months of the 2012-13 campaign before being restored by his replacement Carlo Ancelotti.

"At the beginning there was a lot of connection, we interacted a lot, but in the end, there wasn't a very good feeling," Casillas explained in an interview with Movistar+ show Fiebremaldini.

"It's like a couple, at the beginning you are very much in love and then it is no longer enough.

“Sunday’s El Clasico? That rivalry exists and I have experienced it, iIn my experience, in a given game, we hurt Barcelona much more.

“My hope is that Madrid win and they can claim the league title because in my opinion, they have deserved it.

"My place in the Spanish national team? I am not going to give up, the day that I do, I will be the one to announce it. Right now I have a challenge against myself. I would like to go back but it's the coach's [Julen Lopetegui] decision."
