‘Barca not impossible for La Real’

Mikel Oyarzabal accepts winning at Barcelona is difficult for Real Sociedad but insists it isn’t impossible.

Oyarzabal, who turns 20 on Friday, scored the only goal when La Real beat Barca at Anoeta in April 2016 but the Basques haven’t won at Camp Nou in their last 20 visits.

“The first time you go there everything is imposing, it’s all new. You’re not used to it. You’re nervous before the match, but once you’re on the pitch you forget everything. You focus on the pitch,” Oyarzabal told Mundo Deportivo.

“That goal is one of my favourite memories. Last year I was just entering the first team and I was able to get the winning goal against Barca, who at the time were on top of the world.

“We’ve already shown we can hurt them as we did in the first round match this season. If we do our thing, focus on ourselves, it can go well for us. Of course we have to know what to do and what not to do against them but if we focus on ourselves we have a good chance.

“We know it’s a complicated place to go. We have to go with our idea and try to hurt them. Once we’re on the pitch it’s 11 against 11. It’s difficult, yes, I’m not going to say it isn’t, but it’s not impossible.”
