‘Sevilla knew Monchi was leaving’

Sevilla President Jose Castro acknowledges the club knew Monchi was to leave and says “we haven’t stopped working.”

The sporting director will move on this summer with Roma touted as a possible destination and Castro, after touching on Jorge Sampaoli’s connection to the vacant Argentina Coach’s position, discussed where the club goes once Monchi quits.

“We already knew for some time that Monchi was going to leave and we haven’t stopped working. Oscar Arias is a well-trained person who has been at the club for a long time and knows our structure. We’ll have news soon,” he said, according to reporter Pepe Elias.

“For now what we’re looking for is to win. It seems like the League is over and we have a very important goal to achieve. We’re fourth, to a point of our best historical tally. We want to reach third place and while there are points there we’ll try to get all possible.

“To get third place we have to get all the points, seven games, seven wins. Of course the home games are going to be fundamental. We’ve always been very confident at home and hopefully we will be so in the next games. We have to keep going with the intention of getting points.”
