Murthy will this summer replace Layhoon Chan, who is stepping down as President, and it was suggested at a Press conference that Chan’s departure, coupled with the appointment of general manager Mateu Alemany, is a sign the club is to be put up for sale.
“There is no sale, not for €2m or for €1bn. The important thing today is that there are changes. Two weeks ago we had Alemany’s arrival. The club is in an evolution. Layhoon has done a phenomenal job to allow us to progress,” Murthy said, according to Super Deporte, before he was pressed on an apparent contradiction after Chan previously said she had no plans to step down.
“That was in December, four months ago. There’s no contradiction. These changes were planned after January. I’ve been here six months. My experience is global management, not football but at a club, different people are needed. I’m going to work with Mateu. We’re going to be a team.
“I talk to Mateu every day. It’s not who makes the decision but how the decision is made. We can work together. Decisions will be based on consensus, a team effort. I need to learn from Layhoon, the management and the rest of the club’s employees.
“The Coach is an important issue but as Voro has said, the time to make decisions about the Coach hasn’t arrived. The team is competing, we’re working for next season but now isn’t the time. I understand why you ask if we have to sell players but it isn’t the time. I know you want to know the plans, but I can’t give you more information.”
