Luis Enrique doesn’t believe Barcelona’s Champions League comeback against Paris Saint-Germain will have any bearing against Juventus.
The Catalans defied the odds to come from 4-0 behind in the first leg and win 6-5 on aggregate, and were paired in the Quarter-Finals with Serie A champions and beaten 2015 finalists Juventus.
“No, we don’t take reference of previous results. This game will depend on a lot of things,” Lucho said, AS reports, when questioned on the legacy of the previous round.
“Juventus play good football. Their numbers are spectacular, at the height of their history and matching the significance of what it means to be in the Champions League Quarter-Final. Regardless of where, our idea is to overcome a rival.
“They’re similar to two years ago, with some comings and goings. They’re at a very high level. I couldn’t say if they were better two years ago.
“How will they play? [Massimiliano] Allegri could tell you that. I’ve seen Juve drop deep and press high. We’re going to play our game.”
Sergio Busquests is suspended for the first leg and Enrique confirmed Andre Gomes could come in for the Spain international, and defended the Portuguese from criticism.
“Busquets is a vital player for us. But we’re more than capable of accounting for his absence,” Enrique insisted.
“It could be Gomes. It’s pathetic, regrettable and unfair to single out one player for criticism. This is a collective sport.”
