Leganes excited for Madrid visit

Leganes president Victoria Pavon is excited about Real Madrid’s first ever visit to his club in Wednesday’s La Liga meeting.

It’s a crucial match for both clubs for differing reasons – the Butarque-based club are five points above the drop zone while Madrid are two points clear at the top of La Liga, having played a game less than title rivals Barcelona.

"Madrid are coming for the first time, the fans are so excited about seeing all these players," Pavon told ESPN.

"It is something huge for us, to be competing with them, as equals, for the first time in the same division. Of course it is very important. So there is a great expectation – if Butarque were five times bigger we could have sold it out.

"Will they rotate? I don't know what to say about that….so many people would be disappointed not to see them on the pitch. But you have to be practical. If they decide to rest Cristiano then, sincerely, that would be an extra boost for us… although they have many great players.

“This not about putting on a show in Leganes so the people can say they saw this player, or that one. The important thing for us is to win the game. So if they keep a lot of players at home, then better for us.

"There is never a good moment to play against Real Madrid – they have the best players in the world. So 'never' is the right moment to play them.

“But you can only try and do the best you can, hope that they have a bad day, and we have a good day. We know how difficult it will be. We must give everything, a lot must go for us, but in the end there are nine games left to play and we need the points over these last nine games."
