‘La Liga wants VAR, but…’

La Liga chief Javier Tebas claims the League “has been requesting video assistant referees”, but the Spanish Football Federation “won’t let it be used”.

VAR came to Spain’s rescue in their 2-0 win against France on Tuesday, having correctly adjudged a Bleus goal offside and awarded La Roja their second of the evening.

“[RFEF President Angel Maria] Villar accepts VAR in a friendly match for the national team, but he won’t let it be used by La Liga, which has been requesting it for some time,” he tweeted.

Tebas and Villar are known to share a strained relationship, with the former on record as branding the latter “selfish” and lacking respect.
