Barca begin Coutinho ‘operation’?

Sport reports “operation Coutinho is in progress” as Barcelona look to sign the Liverpool midfielder this summer.

According to the Catalan newspaper, Barca’s main priority is the signing of a right-back, but they are also in a position to make “a market statement” in Coutinho.

Sport explains Barca have “a very good relationship” with the player’s agent Giuliano Bertolucci, with the Brazilian cropping up in several conversations.

The former Inter ace is thought to be “the player with the best profile for Barca that currently exists in the market”, given his “quality, combination game and international experience”.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in Coutinho, although he “doesn’t like their sporting project that much”.

Barca are also aware the 24-year-old will not be an easy target to land and that they must ship out at least one midfielder this summer in order to fund his arrival.

Nonetheless, Sport believe Coutinho – Luis Suarez’s Liverpool teammate between 2013 and 2014 – is ready to leave Anfield in the search of silverware.
