Sevilla face partial stadium closure

Sevilla’s Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan will face a partial closure following derogatory chants aimed at Sergio Ramos and Real Madrid.

The Andalucians have confirmed the N11 and N12 sections behind the Gol Norte section of the stand will be closed, in a move which is seen to punish the club’s Biris Norte ultras.

The National Professional Football League (NPFL) immediately condemned the chants which occurred during Sevilla’s pulsating 3-3 Copa Del Rey draw with Madrid in January, where Ramos netted a late penalty for the visitors.

Sevilla will appeal what they feel is an ‘excessive’ punishment, and is the second time the club have been punished for similar incidents after they were fined regarding fans chants towards Andalucian rivals Malaga in December.

Nine separate chants were found to have broken rules, all of which were derogatory to Ramos – formerly of Los Rojiblancos – and Madrid.
