“Barca the only club to help Chape”

Chapecoense president Plinio David de Nes Filho has revealed Barcelona are the only club to financially support them following November’s plane crash.

The Catalan club sent a financial payment to the Brazilian club following a plane crash in November 2016 where 71 perished including 19 Chape players just outside Medellin, Colombia ahead of the first of two matches against Atletico Nacional to determine the champion of the Copa Sudamericana.

The Blaugrana have also invited Chapecoense to take part in this summer’s Joan Gamper Trophy match at Camp Nou.

"Barcelona was the first team that showed solidarity with us, and for now, it's the only team that's helped us financially sending us €250,000," Filho said in an interview with Cadena Ser.

"In May we will have the definitive date (for a friendly match between the two clubs), which will be between the 18th and 26th of May.”

Chape have been leant several loan players from fellow teams in Brazil’s Serie A due to the heavily depleted nature of their squad, while Brazil and Colombia played out an international friendly with all proceeds going to the families of those affected.
