Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Sime Vrsaljko injured knee ligaments during Sunday’s 3-1 win against Sevilla.

Vrsajlko went down unopposed in just the second minute at the Vicente Calderon, and a medical report issued by Atleti explained the right-back had sustained “an injury that affects the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee”.

The Croatian will undergo further tests on Monday to determine the extent of his injury, although the initial signs do not look good.

As such, Marca is reporting that the club have accepted the presence of a serious injury and losing the 25-year-old for at least the remainder of the season.

A reported €18m arrival from Sassuolo last summer, Vrsaljko had recently displaced Juanfran Torres as Atleti’s first-choice right-back.
