“We beat one of Europe’s best…”

Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare called Sevilla ‘one of the best teams in Europe’ and hailed his side for knocking them out of the Champions League.

It was Los Rojiblancos first exit from Europe in a knockout tie since a 2011-12 defeat against German side Hanover, while Leicester won only their second ever European knockout tie, with the other coming in 1968 against Northern Irish side Glenavon.

"The idea was to make it as uncomfortable as we could for Sevilla in the first 15 minutes and play on the front foot,” Shakespeare revealed in his post-match press conference.

"I thought we set the game plan out tremendously and, of course, goals change games. Wes getting the first one put us in the driving seat. I think we drove forward from there.

"Of course, we rode our luck at times, you have to in any football game, but I thought the character the players showed today was immense and there for everyone to see.

"We've just knocked out one of the best teams in Europe in my opinion, their credentials over the last few years have been there for everyone to see. As a club we can be immensely proud tonight.

"Everyone spoke about the Champions League music, it ignites everybody and I thought the crowd were terrific tonight."
