Xavi wants to manage Barcelona

Former Barcelona star Xavi has revealed he has hopes of managing the club when he finishes his playing career.

The 37-year-old – who plans to retire with Qatari club Al-Sadd in 2018 – wants to follow in the footsteps of former teammates Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique in making the step from playing at Camp Nou to managing.

"My aim is to arrive as a coach at Barcelona," Xavi explained in an interview with L’Equipe.

"You never know what will happen, it's not only up to me.

"It depends on what you're capable of, the situation, the moment, the circumstances. But my objective, what I want to do, it's certain that it's to work for FC Barcelona."

Xavi made 767 appearances for the Blaugrana across 17 seasons before leaving for Qatar in 2015.
