Premier League most competitive – Bale

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale believes the English Premier League is more competitive than La Liga but Spain’s top sides are the strongest in Europe.

The Welsh forward – who has netted 54 goals in 96 appearances and won two Champions League titles at the Bernabeu – stated that despite English clubs underperforming in comparison to Spanish sides in Europe, the league is generally more competitive.

"In terms of one to 20, the Premier League is the closest. On any given day, 20th can beat top. Here [in Spain’s La Liga], not so much. It's a bigger gap," Bale is quoted as saying by The Sun.

"But I feel the top six or seven in Spain are really strong and in European competition, you've obviously got Madrid and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid have been to two finals and Sevilla have won three Europa Leagues.

"The Premier League is by far the most competitive but the teams that always perform in Europe are from Spain."
