Moya ‘agrees’ new Atletico deal

Atletico Madrid back-up goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya has confirmed he has agreed a one-year contract extension with the club.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at Los Rojiblancos in June and despite largely deputising for first-choice Jan Oblak at the club across three seasons, he has kept 30 clean sheets in 60 outings for Diego Simeone’s side.

"We want to be relaxed about this," Moya told Cadena Ser radio show El Larguero.

"Atleti knew that I wanted to stay and I knew that Atleti wanted me to stay. It has been simple, this week or next week I will sign the contract. There is an agreement, there is no problem."

The former Valencia and Getafe shot-stopper had a prolonged run in the team due to the Slovenian’s shoulder injury and recently made high-profile errors to concede goals against Bayer Leverkusen and Celta Vigo.

Goalkeeper Axel Werner – a 21-year-old currently on loan at Boca Juniors – is also set to return to Atleti next season.
