Win or bust, admits Garitano

Gaizka Garitano admits he may be forced to leave Deportivo La Coruna if they fail to beat fellow strugglers Leganes on Saturday.

No wins so far in 2017, coupled with goals regularly being conceded towards the end of games, have left Depor just three points outside the relegation places in La Liga and Garitano considering whether he is still the right man in charge.

“This game is important for Depor, we all want Depor to win, that’s the most important thing,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“If we win at Leganes, I’ll continue here. I always try to win so I can continue here.

“What concerns me most is that Depor will gradually get up and out of this situation. What happens to me isn’t important.

“I speak every week with the President and sporting director, but they are private conversations.

“I’ve always had the club’s confidence and they have mine. We work together here and we’re working together to face [this situation].

“I’d only be happy with a win, I wouldn’t be happy with a draw, neither was I happy with what happened at San Mames last week.

“My mentality is always to win, of course we’re not going to play for a draw. Then, as the game develops, you can see whether the result of a draw is good or not.

“[Rival teams] have scored many goals against us towards the end of games. If you’re going to look for an explanation, the fault lies with the Coach as I’m in charge of the team.

“Certainly there haven’t been many good things to take from our games, so I’ll try to improve. If you always think you do things right, you never get better.

“I always try to improve and be self-critical so that the team do better.”
