Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin is set to return to action on Sunday against Barcelona following a fortnight out with a thigh injury.

The Uruguayan picked up the injury in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi final against Barcelona and was substituted off at Camp Nou in a match which saw Atleti’s elimination from the competition and has since missed league wins over Celta Vigo and Sporting Gijon, alongside Wednesday’s win in Leverkusen.

Despite Diego Simeone’s side winning all three matches in Godin’s absence, they have conceded five goals across that time.

It looks likely the Uruguayan captain will partner his compatriot Jose Gimenez in defence with Stefan Savic set to be dropped to the bench, with goalkeeper Jan Oblak also set to return as goalkeeper after returning to full fitness.
