Varane set for 5 weeks out

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane could be set for five weeks on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury against Valencia.

The French central defender was forced off in the 73rd minute of Wednesday night’s 2-1 defeat at Mestalla and will now undergo medical tests on Friday as club doctors seek to assess the damage done.

AS report the former Lens defender will definitely miss out on the side’s trip to Villarreal on Sunday but Marca state he will miss the next five weeks of action.

Zinedine Zidane will have to pair one of Nacho Fernandez or Pepe alongside captain Sergio Ramos at the heart of his defence but he will be hoping to have Varane back in his plans soon ahead of a busy schedule of La Liga and Champions League fixtures.

If the reports in Marca are correct, the 23-year-old will also set out the league fixtures against Las Palmas, Eibar, Betis and Athletic Bilbao alongside the Champions League return leg in Naples.
