Rayo appoint former player Michel

Rayo Vallecano have announced Miguel Angel Sanchez Munoz, 'Michel' as their new manager following the dismissal of Ruben Baraja on Monday.

The 41-year-old has been named as Cocsh of Los Franjirrojos until the end of the campaign and is the club’s third manager of the season after Jose Ramon Sandoval’s sacking in November.

Michel played for the Vallecas-based club over two spells spanning a total of 16 seasons, making 424 appearances and scoring 67 goals whilst captaining the side before his retirement in 2012.

The former midfielder – who also enjoyed spells with Almeria, Murcia and Malaga – takes over a club who are facing the real prospect of successive relegations after ending their five-year spell in top flight last summer.

The club from the Spanish capital sit one point off the relegation zone and three points off the foot ofa  typical competitive and tightly-packed second tier.
