Simeone’s ‘huge respect’ for Bayer

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has spoken of his ‘huge respect’ for German side Bayer Leverkusen ahead of their Champions League clash on Tuesday.

Leverkusen are eight in the Bundesliga standings and go into the match having beaten Augsburg 3-1 on Friday evening and Simeone – who is aiming to reach his third Champions League final in the space of four seasons – believes his side will have to be wary of Bayer’s attacking threat.

“They are a side I have huge respect for and one that we have always liked,” told his pre-match press conference.

“They have a manager who works extremely well, especially with the attacking aspect of the team.

“Also their quick counters and their pace on the wings, they are an extremely dangerous opponent.

“We are still working in order to find our own style – we need to try and be more consistent.”
