Suarez to miss CDR final as appeal fails

Luis Suarez will miss the final of the Copa del Rey after Barcelona’s appeal over his second yellow card against Atletico Madrid was dismissed by the RFEF.

The Uruguayan will now definitely sit out May’s final against Alaves after his 88th minute red card in the second leg of the semi final against Los Rojiblancos, given as the striker “hit an opposition player with his arm in a reckless manner when challenging for the ball,” having first been booked two minutes earlier.

The RFEF committee commented the video evidence “could not be clearer in contrary to the claims of the appellant” and noted the former Liverpool striker failed to leave the pitch after being instructed to do so, and also stayed in the tunnel area despite repeated requests for him to leave.

Suarez is one of two Barca players who will be suspended for May’s final alongside Sergi Roberto – also dismissed against Atletico – while Aleix Vidal is ruled out for the rest of the campaign with injury.
