Maradona denounces ‘media circus’

Diego Maradona refuted claims he was the perpetrator of an alleged assault against a women in a Madrid hotel, describing the episode as a ‘media circus’.

The Argentine football legend was staying in the Eurostars hotel in the north of Madrid before going to show his support for former club Napoli ahead of their game at the Bernabeu, but Spanish media claimed police were alerted to an alleged assault in his suite, where he was then questioned by the authorities.

“I want to tell you that I’m in Madrid with my family, waiting for the Napoli game, for the Champions Leauge,” Maradona wrote on his Facebook page ahead of last night’s Champions League tie.

“My lawyer, Matias Morla, has spoken to the Spanish authorities. There was never any complaint and no-one can explain the reason for this media circus.

“I’m having a wonderful time, let them say what they want.”
