Angel Di Maria has expressed his bemusement at criticism of former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo and believes ‘it is exaggerated’.
Speaking in an interview with Marca, the Argentine star who left the Bernabeu in 2014 leapt to the defence of the Portuguese captain, who has been the subject of whistles from the Real Madrid crowd after being partially criticised for the club’s Copa del Rey exit.
"It is exaggerated," Di Maria – who himself was previously targeted by his own fans whilst at Madrid – responded when asked about the criticism of Ronaldo.
"He has given so much to Madrid, as others have. He has won two Champions Leagues and people forget that a bit, they always want more.
"The same has happened with Messi, people say he's not scoring enough, he's not like he was before, but overnight something sparks and the goals start to flow. I don't understand how people can question Cristiano."
