Godin set for two weeks out

Atletico Madrid have confirmed their defender Diego Godin will miss the next two weeks with a thigh injury he picked up in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey tie.

The Uruguayan was substituted off in the 49th minute at the Camp Nou in the 1-1 draw with Barcelona, which eventually saw Los Rojiblancos eliminated 3-2 on aggregate.

Atleti confirmed on Thursday that Godin underwent a scan on Thursday which revealed he had a thigh strain and whilst the club did not comment on how long he would be unavailable for, AS report he will miss two weeks of action.

Diego Simeone will hope to have his influential defender back for the first leg of their Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen on 21st February, although he will miss Sunday’s clash with Celta Vigo and the following league game against Sporting Gijon.

Antoine Griezmann and Nico Gaitan also did not take part in Thursday training after sustaining knocks against Barca, but both are expected to be available for the clash with Celta.
