Suarez: Barca treatment no surprise

Luis Suarez hinted Barcelona were being punished by officials deliberately as his red card against Atletico Madrid “wasn’t even a foul and can’t be explained”.

Suarez was adjudged to have caught the back of Koke’s head for a second bookable offence during Tuesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final second leg between Barca and Atleti, which finished 1-1.

The draw was enough to send the Catalans into the final, but they will not be able to call on the striker, who admitted he found the decision to send him off funny.

“My red card? We know how everything goes here,” he said after the game.

“It wasn’t even a foul. I just turned and it seemed [my sending-off] was what [the referee] wanted. We’ll see what the club can do if they appeal it.

“I laugh at the red card. These are things that can’t be explained, but we’re used to it.

“Still, we knew it would be a complicated match and that Atletico wouldn’t make it easy for us.”
