Rayo in controversial Zozulya loan

Rayo Vallecano have signed Roman Zozulya on loan from Real Betis until the end of the season, but it has not gone down well with the La Liga 2 side's fans.

The Vallecas-based side's five-year stay in the top flight ended in May and they've struggled to adapt to the Segunda this campaign with only six league wins in 23 attempts to leave them 17th in the standings, a single point ahead of second-from-bottom Mirandes.

Zozulya has made only one league start for Los Verdiblancos since joining from Ukranian side Dnipro and has failed to score a single goal at the Benito Villamarin, with a loan deal to Rayo agreed until June 30th.

The move is a controversial one due to the striker's perceived links to extreme right-wing politics in his native Ukraine, with the Segunda side's fanbase notoriously left-leaning on the political spectrum.

“Vallekas is not a place for nazis, you neither (club owner, Raul Martin Presa). Get out!", read a banner at Rayo's training ground on Wednesday morning, although the striker was not present at training, but Jordi Gomez – who has joined on loan from Wigan – was with his new teammates.
