N’Zonzi pens new Sevilla deal

Steven N'Zonzi has signed a new contract at Sevilla which will see him stay at the Europa League winners until 2020 with an increased release clause.

The former French youth international joined the Andalucians for €8m from Stoke City in the summer of 2015 and has blossomed into one of the side's most important players, especially after the summer departures of Ever Banega and Gregorz Krychowiak.

His previous lasted until 2019 with the club with a release clause of €30m, leading to great speculation he was a target for Barcelona or he could be lining up a potential return to the English Premier League.

Whilst there is no confirmation on the exact figure of the new release clause, it is thought to be in the region of €50m.

The 28-year-old played a crucial role in helping Sevilla to last season's Europa League title and has played an increasingly influential role at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan this season, including scoring the winner against Atletico Madrid back in October to briefly Jorge Sampaoli's side top of the league.
