Villarreal’s Simeone bid rejected

Genoa have rejected a bumper €20m from Villarreal for striker Giovanni Simeone, son of Atletico Madrid boss Diego, say reports.

Nicknamed ‘Cholito’ – after his father’s ‘Cholo’ – has netted ten goals for the Serie A side this campaign and has been linked with a move to a number of top Italian clubs such as Inter Milan and Lazio.

Villarreal are rumoured to be in the market for a new striker following the exit of Alexandre Pato to Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian.

The Yellow Submarine have a lot of recent history of signing players from the Italian top division having picked Nicola Sansone, Roberto Soriano and Daniele Bonera, but Genoa have knocked back their offer for Simeone, report Calcionews24.com.

The Grifone have just sold centre-forward Leonardo Pavoletti to Napoli and are reportedly unwilling to sell another player at this point in the season.

Villarreal have already brought in forward Adrian Lopez on loan from FC Porto this January window.
