Luis Suarez claims Barcelona’s ‘ghost goal’ against Real Betis “was one metre over” the line but accepts “referees can also be wrong”.
Barca had a perfectly-legitimate goal ruled out on Sunday, despite television replays clearly showing Jordi Alba’s finish to have beaten Aissa Mandi, and Suarez – who scored a last-ditch equaliser – made it clear officials should have seen the ball go in.
“After the 1-0, they had the chance to score a second,” the forward said after the game.
“We showed that we want to stay up there, but it wasn’t to be. Our opponents also played and had a great game. We have to be self-critical.
“[On the ghost goal], the ball was one metre over, but the referees can also be wrong.
“Still, the images confirm that there was a goal. We needed to win and now we depend on the others to drop points as well.
“We knew it was going to be very complicated.”
