Luis Enrique is hoping Barcelona’s ghost goal against Real Betis in Sunday’s 1-1 draw will go towards giving La Liga referees “the help they need”.
Television replays showed the ball to be clearly over the line when Aissa Mandi scrambled to clear Jordi Alba’s scuffed shot, consequently robbing Barca of two points and prompting calls for technology to be implemented, but Enrique kept his cool when reacting to the incident.
“We didn’t suffer other than two counterattacks in the first half, although we didn’t create much danger,” the Coach said after the game.
“We weren’t precise. In the second half, they pressed us and we couldn’t use the ball properly.
“They had a very good half hour, when they were superior to us. I leave with the feeling that we’ve gained a point.
“It was a general lack of precision from us. All the conditions were right to play football, but they combined well and we didn’t.
“They grew into the game. In football, you have to show that you’re better [than your opponents].
“Ghost goal? I saw a picture of it, but the referees need help, whether it be through technological means and whether [the decision] benefits us or harms us.
“Goodbye to the League? This is the competition of consistency, so I don’t think so. The League will be won by the most consistent team of them all.
“We’ve picked up a positive result. We were inferior to them until they scored.
“We didn’t have chances to score [in that time]. We had more in the first half. Now we have to keep going.
“As I didn’t like anything I saw, we stretched the pitch with Sergi Roberto and Aleix. From there, we created danger. It also helped that [Betis] backed off.”
