Diego Simeone could have no complaints with Atletico Madrid’s stalemate at Alaves on Saturday as “the result was better than our performance”.
Atleti failed to win for the second straight game in La Liga, leaving them at least five points adrift of the top three and at risk of being leapfrogged in fourth by Real Sociedad, who can topple Los Colchoneros with victory at Real Madrid on Sunday.
“Alaves were superior, especially in terms of intensity,” the Coach said after the match.
“They had a very good game. The result was better than our performance. It was a bad match in general.
“Gaitan had the clearest chance, but their goalkeeper reacted remarkably and Carrasco played the same as the rest of the team, so we must [all] try to improve.
“Still, we have enthusiasm for all the matches we play in.”
