Victor frustrated by Sporting stalemate

Real Betis coach Victor Sanchez del Amo believes his side can secure a top half finish despite the ‘disappointment’ of Sunday’s draw with Sporting Gijon.

Los Verdiblancos were frustrated by the relegation-embattled Asturians who were being coached by Rubi for the first time, with a timid, scoreless encounter at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

"We have 22 points and of course we can achieve the goal of being in the top 10,” said the former Deportivo La Coruna boss.

"New signings? We need them for the team positions, not for a supposed classification – we could maybe use more depth, let’s see.

"We are annoyed with the result because we wanted to win. They have given us a scare and it is normal that we are not happy.

“Perhaps we were a little surprised due to the reporting inaccuracies of who would be playing for Sporting and in what formation, but that can happen with a new manager.

"We aimed to win all three points but all the matches are complicated, we've already played against Leganés, and it's hard for all teams to win, even when you see Real Madrid against Malaga.”
