Zidane: ‘Players need affection’

Zinedine Zidane has called for Real Madrid fans to show more affection towards their team after victory over Malaga.

Sergio Ramos' two first half strikes were enough to bring an end to Los Blancos' two match losing streak, but their were still audible signs of discontent around the Bernabeu at times during the 2-1 win.

"I hope it was through being demanding, rather than being nervous," Zidane said of the supporters' whistling. "We need the crowd to give us calm, because what we have done up until now has been phenomenal.

"We ask that they help us and support us.

"I don't criticise the people, they pay their entrance fee and they want more. But in a long season the Coach and the players need affection."

The Frenchman then added that, despite a few nervy moments, he was satisfied to get the win over Malaga.

"The important thing was to win after getting a good start. We had chances, but lately we have four chances and score one.

"It was difficult because the opposition ran a lot. We are tired, but happy."

It was also pointed out to Zidane that Madrid are the League's most prolific scorers from set pieces, with Ramos having bagged another two today.

"I am happy about that, we know it is one of our strengths.

"But I would have liked us to score from open play too. The important thing is to rest well, because they made us run a lot."

Finally, the Bernabeu boss discussed injuries to his players, with both Luka Modric and Marcelo having been substituted after sustaining knocks. In addition, Danilo was left on the bench amid concerns over his fitness.

"Luka's is an aggrevation, Marcelo's is more complicated. We will see tomorrow.

"Danilo had some discomfort and couldn't play. He was on the bench, but he couldn't be on the pitch.

"He wanted to play but that isn't good. He wasn't completely fine and we didn't risk it."
