La Real and Barca players continue spat

The controversy on the pitch from Barcelona's win at Real Sociedad on Thursday night has extended to social media with insults being thrown by players.

It all started when La Real midfielder Asier Illaramendi took to twitter straight after the game in what was an apparent pop at the game’s officiating and the decision not to produce a second yellow card for Lionel Messi in particular: 'Once again, the same as always. Once again…'

Later on in the evening, Illaramendi’s teammate David Zurutuza continued the online protests by including a still photo of him being (incorrectly) called offside: “Terrible control….and you know it!”

Barcelona midfielder was then asked about the comments of Illaramendi post-match, and said: "I don't know what Illara is compaining about, we should have had another penalty in the game. Sometimes it's better to leave your phone a little longer in your pocket…"

Then Real Sociedad defender Raul Navas had his say, blaming the Croatian for hypocrisy in what appeared to be comments directed at Barca defender Gerard Pique: "I think he also has to have a look inwards and I don't know if he's brave enough to say this to some of his own teammates who speak more than Illarra, on and off Twitter".

The return leg takes place on 26th January with a 9.15pm (CET) kick-off.
