‘Sevilla best club for me’ – Monchi

Sevilla sporting director Monchi believes the Andalucian club is ‘the best place for me to work’ as he appeared to reject the possibility of a move away.

Having begun in his current role in 2000 there has been great speculation that he would leave the Europa League winners after reportedly telling the board last summer he wanted to change clubs, while in October he admitted he’d like to live in Rome or Paris, which began rumours he is favourite to join AS Roma this summer.

"I'm so excited about the present that I don't think about the future,” he confirmed on Cadena Ser show El Larguero.

“The best place for me to work is at Sevilla.

"My clause is €5m, but I would never pay it – the decision of go I do not would be unilateral, I have a contract.”

The comments come one day after club president Jose Castro admitted he couldn’t keep someone at the club who did not want to be there.

In terms of any more transfers this month, Monchi appeared non-committal but admitted moves for Aleix Vidal and Dani Parejo were both unlikely.

"There is not much of a chance that we will be in a position where we can re-sign Aleix Vidal…Dani Parejo? I really like him but we already have our players in his position (central midfield) and he is important for Valencia right now.”
