Marcelo – We must learn from mistakes

Real Madrid full-back Marcelo believes his team must learn from their mistakes in Sunday’s defeat at Sevilla to maintain their place at the top of La Liga.

A Cristiano Ronaldo gave Madrid the lead halfway through the second half in a match in which they appeared solid and fluid, but a late Sergio Ramos own goal and a Stevan Jovetic last-minute strike ended Madrid’s 40-game unbeaten streak.

"We played a good game, but after the goal we relaxed," Marcelo told BeIn Sports after the match.

"That's my point of view. We have made mistakes, and it's tough to take letting the points slip like this. But they got the equaliser and made it difficult for us in the end, and they got a boost and scored the second.

"There's a long way to go in La Liga and we will learn from the mistakes of today. We gave everything, but it was not to be.

"We tried until the end, but in the end it could not be.

"We gave everything, we relaxed a little after the goal. We must learn from this so it does not happen again. But for me the team played a great game.

"La Liga has always been open; there are many games yet to play. We are still top, and must learn from this and not make mistakes again."
