Verdu joins Qingdao Huanghai

Experienced Spanish midfielder Juan Verdu has signed for Chinese second division side Qingdao Hainiu, where he will be coached by Jordi Vinyals.

Verdu spent four years in Barcelona’s ‘B’ side but never made a first-team appearance for the club, although he did go on to have a distinguished career in Spain at Deportivo La Coruna, Espanyol, Real Betis and most recently, Levante.

The 33-year-old also spent time at Italian side Fiorentina, while his new coach Vinyals – appointed in December 2015 – played for and coached a number of Spanish sides, including Barca ‘B’.

Without a club since leaving Levante last summer, Verdu will now link-up with former Real Mallorca defender Marti Crespi and Yuri, the striker formerly of Ponferrafina.
