Depor close in on John

Deportivo La Coruna are close to completing a deal to bring Benfica winger Ola John – currently on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers – to the club.

The 24-year-old Dutchman has made only two appearances at Wolves this season – both as substitute – and the Galicians see him as the ideal replacement for Ryan Babel, who’s short-term contract expired last month.

La Voz de Galicia report Depor are close to concluding a deal which would see John join in a deal until the end of the current campaign and reinforce a team which is short in attacking numbers following Babel’s departure and injuries to Carles Gil and Bruno Gama.

John joined Benfica in a deal worth €9m from Dutch side FC Twente in 2012 but has since had loan spells at Hamburger, Reading and most recently at Wolves.

He has been capped once by the Netherlands and is able to play either on the left or right hand side of the attack.
