Musacchio faces three weeks out

Villarreal will be without defender Mateo Musacchio for a minimum of three weeks due to a fractured wrist, reports coach Fran Escriba.

The 26-year-old fell awkwardly on his arm with three minutes to go in Sunday’s draw at home to Barcelona and was substituted off, with the extent of the injury now revealed.

"Mateo's injury is a shame," boss Escriba told El Mundo.

"He is going to be out for at least three weeks.

"He is a very important player for us, more so at this stage of the campaign. It's a big loss but we can only react and with the players that we have, we can do that."

The centre half has featured in 16 games for Villarreal this season, 12 of which have come in La Liga.

He will now miss his side’s Copa Del Rey last 16 second leg against Real Sociedad and also will be unavailable for the league games against Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia and Granada.
