Barca players miss FIFA gala

Barcelona have confirmed that none of their players will travel to Zurich for FIFA's 'The Best' awards ceremony on Monday evening.

The FIFA award has now split from the Ballon d'Or crown after France Football ended it's association with FIFA, and the Catalan club have now confirmed that none of their squad will travel to the ceremony, despite arrangements being made for Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez to attend.

The Blaugrana state this is to assist their team's preparations for their midweek Copa Del Rey clash with Athletic Bilbao, whom they currently trail 2-1 and the club will still send a delegation of seven officials to the ceremony, including president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the hot favourite to win the title to add to his Ballon d'Or crown and is one of a remaining shortlist of three for 'The Best Men's Player', along with Messi and Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.

The two other awards which will be handed out are 'The Best Women's Player' gong and 'FIFA Puskas award' (for the best goal of 2016).
