Demichelis free to leave Espanyol

Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores has confirmed that Martin Demichelis is free to leave the club six months early.

Demichelis has played just 98 minutes over two matches for Espanyol, despite being signed at Sanchez Flores’ request last summer, and the veteran defender’s contract has subsequently been cut short.

“We had a very complete game,” he said after Los Periquitos’ 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna on Friday.

“We played with good feelings, but the result fell short of what we deserved. We were better than in other games.

“Marc Roca? He is at an excellent level but must calm down. After his injury, he was a bit nervous, anxious.

“He didn’t transmit the calmness that he showed at the beginning of the season. You can’t play when you’re anxious, but I’m sure that Marc will return once his anxiety subsides.

“Demichelis? His contractual relationship with the club ends on Monday, but until he’s found another team, he’s another Espanyol player.”
